The N16 at Glenfarne, Co Leitrim, still remains open despite a crane having collapsed there at the site of road realignment works this morning.
The driver of the crane was taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be serious.
An operation will be taking place later to remove the crane and diversions are then likely.
Discussions on how to proceed are taking place between Leitrim County Council, the contractors and others involved.
Two other cranes will have to brought to the site to remove the crane that came down.
And in order for those cranes to work, a platform will have to be built up to support them.
Gardai have warned motorists to be cautious as there could be traffic disruption in the area.
