Lack of LIS road funding a concern throughout North West



Leitrim County Council is to seek a meeting with the Department of Transport over the lack of money for a number of years now for the improvement of roads leading to people’s homes.

In Leitrim, no work has been done under the so-called Local Improvement Scheme for the past seven years, resulting in a backlog of applications.

Fianna Fail Councillor Paddy O Rourke says he cannot see why people living on this type of road are less entitled to a route to their home.

He points out it’s not a free scheme as people have to make a contribution toward the cost of the work to be done.

At this week’s meeting of the council, councillors agreed to a motion from Cllr O Rourke proposing that the Department of Transport be asked to meet a delegation about the issue:
