Sligo/Leitrim TD questions government plans for homeless families at Christmas

A Sligo/Leitrim TD has been told that it’s up to Local Authorities to provide accommodation for homeless people over the Christmas period.

Sinn Fein deputy Martin Kenny raised the question in the dail if the government had any plans for those living in hotels which will close for Christmas.

He said he is concerned that those in government provided temporary accommodation will have it taken away from them over the holidays.

Tanaiste Francis Fitzgerald responded saying that responsibility lies not with government but with local authorities.

But Deputy Kenny wants to know what plans are already in place
