Turkish market vital to future of suckler farmer in west

The turkish market will be vital to the future of the suckler farmer in the west of Ireland.

That’s according to Aurivo mart manager in Ballymote and Mohill Stephen Hannon who says that the opening of that market this year was very welcome.

Overall, he says 2016 had its ups and downs starting well but after June and the Brexit vote things went downhill affecting beef prices in particular.

Sheep were generally a good trade in 2016.

However, Stephen Hannon says as 2017 shapes up to be a very challenging year, it’s important that the turkish trade continues as it will provide an important trade for farmers in the north west.
