Councillor calls for more funding to prevent repeat flooding



A Sligo councillor says there are a number of schemes under which funding could be sought to alleviate and prevent flooding such as that which occurred this time last year in the Collooney and Ballisodare areas.

Sinn Fein Councillor Thomas Healy is now calling on Sligo County Council to contact the Office of Public Works to seek funding through either schemes for urban flood relief projects or for flood mitigation.

He says this is a matter of concern to people lioving along the Owenmore River, the Unshin River and Ballisodare Bay.

Independent Councillor Margaret Gormley has also called for funding for works not only on the Owenmore but also on its tributaries.

Cllr Healy says now is an appropriate time to look for the money needed:
