Mixed bag for northwest after fisheries talks



The Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation has described the outcome of fisheries talks which ended in Brussels this morning as positive.

It has resulted in increases for the fishing of mackerel, blue whiting, herring and a number of other white fish species.

However, there has been a reduction for haddock in the north west, which the KFO described as disappointing.

There was an increase for Celtic Sea haddock.

The CEO of the Killybegs Fishermen’s Organisation, Sean O Donoghue, says a ‘sustainable and economically viable fishing opportunities package for 2017’ has been delivered.

Donegal Fianna Dail Deputy Pat the Cope Gallagher described the outcome of the negotiations as something of a mixed bag for the north west:
