A Donegal councillor believes the county council need to ensure a commitment to fund two new fire stations in South Donegal is honoured.
The fire stations in Ballyshannon and Bundoran are under independent review currently to see if there will be one new fire station allocated to both towns or two new stations.
Fine Gael councillor Barry O’Neill says a motion proposed by Fianna Fail’s Sean McEniff and himself five years ago was passed to ensure both towns would retain their fire services.
He said both stations were supposed to receive funding under the capital grants programme once it became available.
Yesterday the crews of both stations told the Donegal municipal district that if both were not to receive funding they want their stations to be left as is.
Speaking to Ocean FM councillor O’Neill said he has seen a number of other new fire stations built since being elected but not Bundoran or Ballyshannon.
