Sligo, Donegal items on sale at Mealy’s auction today

A number of historical items with links to Sligo and Donegal are to be sold today at Fonsie Mealy Auctioneers’ annual Christmas sale in Dublin.

The sale comprises more than 800 lots.

Among items for sale is a collection of letters from a mid-19th Century Donegal merchant in Ballyshannon.

It’s a collection of 40 documents written by William Allingham to his son, John.

There’s also an original pencil drawing for four stain-glass windows for the Stations of the Cross windows at the basilica on Lough Derg.

Also on sale will be some correspondence from playwright Brian Friel.

One of the lots has a link to Sligo’s Noble Six.

It’s a collection of eight pre-printed casualty or death forms relating to deaths in the Sligo area during the Civil War.
