Minister claims he’s been ‘very flexible’ with Sligo County Council



The Minister for Housing and Local Government says his department has been very flexible with Sligo County Council in resolving its financial situation.

Minister Simon Coveney has come in for criticism locally in recent months for failing to be lenient enough on the Council’s strict financial plan to reduce its multi-million euro debts.

While a more achievable agreement has been reached, the Council still maintains the surplus it is required to achieve is too much.

Speaking in Sligo late last week, Simon Coveney commended the Council for passing a tough budget in recent weeks and said Councillors were taking a responsible attitude to resolving the situation.

He told reporters than he will continue to work with the Council to reduce Sligo’s debt:
