Broadening of services needed in rural post offices

A broadening of services offered is needed to make rural post offices viable.

That’s the belief of Tomas Walsh, a member of the save Ballygawley post office committee.

There is a threat of closure hanging over the post office there following the recent death postmaster Colm McTiernan.

An Post has confirmed that a review of the facility is being carried out and they are accepting public submissions on it’s future.

Mr. Walsh is calling for motor tax renewal and some credit union services to be incorporated in post offices to make them more sustainable.

He told Ocean FM this morning that An Post themselves need to take some responsibility.
