Asylum-seeking hunger striker ends 36-day fast



The 44-year old Iranian man living in Globe House in Sligo and who was on hunger strike for 36 days is believed this evening to have ended his fast.

Amjad Rosstami went on hunger strike because he feared he would be killed if he was deported back to Iran.

He was transferred yesterday to Sligo University Hospital from Globe House, a direct provision centre.

There had been efforts today to have his case raised in the Dail.

This evening, Fianna Fail TD Marc MacSharry told Ocean FM News he was pleased the man had ended his hunger strike.

Deputy MacSharry says the man will now receive treatment in the hospital after being allowed to enter the asylum process.
