Blue Star programme aims to teach students about the EU

An award winning European programme for Irish national schools is seeking schools from Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal to sign up and earn a blue star.

The blue star programme aims to foster better understanding and knowledge of the European Union among primary school pupils through the classroom.

Teams of pupils of all ages from primary schools are challenged to get creative and think about Europe by carrying out projects with four key elements, history, geography, culture and creativity.

At the end of the programme participating schools will receive a blue star, flag and certificate to show their successful involvement.

The programme will be launched by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny next month.

Noelle O’Connell is the executive director of European Movement Ireland and she told Ocean FM they want to see more schools from the north west get involved.
