Taoiseach’s wife critical of media at home and abroad in Sligo speech



The wife of Taoiseach Enda Kenny says that ‘great citizens make great countries’ and not politicians.

Speaking at the Women and Agriculture conference in Sligo yesterday, Fionnoula O’Kelly said that nevertheless it’s her belief in politics as the only means to change things that has led them to stay in politics.

Ms. O’Kelly – who rarely speaks in public – was also critical of media both at home and abroad.

She says she recognises the important role of the media in holding a government to account but that it also has an important role in informing, which she claims is falling to the background in some cases.
