MacSharry describes meeting with Minister on council’s finances as ‘inconclusive’



A Sligo Leitrim TD has described a meeting with a government Minister on the financial situation at Sligo County Council as ‘inconclusive’.

Fianna Fail Deputy Marc MacSharry secured the meeting with the Minister for Local Government Simon Coveney to call on him to make the financial plan agreed with the Council more manageable.

The five year-plan sets a target for the Council to make a surplus of €1.6m by the end of this year and over €3.7m next year.

However, TDs and the CEO of the Council Ciaran Hayes have made clear that the targets are unrealistic in the current economic climate.
