Greenway only realistic option for western railway

The group campaigning for a greenway to be developed along the Western Rail Corridor is claiming a government report shows a greenway is now the only realistic option for the closed railway route.

The Western Rail Trail Campaign, which is pushing for a greenway from Athenry, Co Galway to Collooney, Co Sligo, says that’s because of lack of money for investment in railways.

However, another group, West on Track, wants the Western Rail Corridor reopened as a working railway line.

Brendan Quinn, of the Western Rail Trail Campaign, told Ocean Fm that the National Traansport Authority Report says closures, rather than new railways, is a more likely scenario.
