Coolera/Strandhill are Connacht senior club football champions

Coolera/Strandhill senior men’s footballers won an historic Connacht club title at Markievicz Park on Sunday with a mighty extra-time victory over Roscommon champions Padraig Pearses, on a final scoreline of 1-15 to 1-14 (aet).

It was a fully deserved win for the Sligo men as they battled back from being five points down at one stage in the second half.

Listen back to Ocean FM Sport’s commentary of the game, as described by Colm McGee & Eamonn O’Hara.

Ross Doherty’s fisted goal in the closing quarter was one of several pivotal score.

Coolera/Strandhill become just the second Sligo club to win the Connacht senior club football championship title.

St Mary’s did it three times in 1977, 1980 and 1983.

The prize for John McPartland’s side now is an All-Ireland club semi-final against the Dublin and Leinster champions Cuala.
