Fire alarm disrupts Donegal count results

There was bizarre scenes during the first count of the Donegal constituency at the Aura Leisure Centre.

Returning Officer Geraldine O’Connor was declaring the results of the count before she was interrupted when the centre’s fire alarm went off!

The count paused for a few short moments before resuming a few moments later.

It’s believed that the alarm was set off by someone vaping.

Pearse Doherty was subsequently deemed elected following the first count.

The Sinn Féin Deputy’s surplus are now being distributed as part of the second count.
