North West sees increase of homelessness in October



There was an increase in homelessness across the North West in October.

 

The figures come from the latest homeless report from the department of housing.

 

The numbers focus on the number of adults who accessed emergency accommodation during the week of the 21st-27th last month.

 

Across Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal, there were 139 people reported as homeless, an increase of 8 on September’s report, with 67 in Sligo, 56 in Donegal and 24 in Leitrim.

 

This accounts for 1% of the national total.

 

94 of the 139 homeless were male, 45 were female.

 

There were 21 families in the North West accessing emergency accommodation during this period. 17 of which were single parent families, and 53 were total child dependants.
