Nessa Cosgrove

Name: Cllr. Nessa Cosgrove

Political Party: Labour Party

Summary:

My name is Nessa Cosgrove.

I was elected to Sligo County Council this June on a platform of change and renewal for the North West.

A youth worker by profession I have been living, working and rearing a family in Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal since 2002.

I live locally with my husband and three children. I love sea swimming, music, meeting people and current affairs.

I got involved in politics because I see first-hand, through my work, how effective social policies makes a positive difference to people’s everyday lives.

Our region has huge potential. Abundant natural resources, an immensely talented population.

What don’t we have? A Government up to the task.

The North West should be a fantastic place to live, work and raise a family

The neglect shown to this region means we are not making the most of our potential.

The cost of living is too high, there is a lack of essential public services at local level. People have to travel and pay privately for services that should be delivered locally by the state.

Autism assessments, disability services, respite care, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, mental health services, cancer services should be readily available in our constituency.

Lack of Government investment in transport, housing and public services causes young people from all across the North West to move away to live and work.

Many young families are struggling with the demands placed upon them. Parents trying to juggle their careers while trying to source necessary childcare and school places for their children, this is particularly difficult for parents of children with additional needs.

The current system isn’t working. Labour has a plan that will change this.

I will be a strong and consistent voice to deliver on housing, childcare, healthcare, transport and climate for our region.
