Sligo Rovers have made their first signing of the close season by recruiting striker Francely Lomboto from Galway United.
The 24-year-old, who has dual citizenship (Ireland & Democratic Republic of Congo), spent four seasons at Eamonn Deacy Park – and can also operate as a winger.
The deal is for the 2025 season.
Rovers say Lomoboto has agreed a pre-contract and will officially join the club on December 1st.
He made 22 appearances last season for Galway across all competitions, scoring two goals, one in the league and one in the cup.
He is remembered by Galway fans for scoring an injury-time equaliser against Waterford in August 2023, which secured a 2-2 draw and with it promotion from the First Division of the League of Ireland.
In total, Lomboto scored 13 goals in 93 matches (67 as substitute) during his four seasons for the club.
While the scoring stats may not look prolific on paper, Sligo Rovers boss John Russell believes Lomboto has the key ingredients to become a top centre-forward.
The Rovers manager spoke to Ocean FM’s Dónal Ryan.
