It’s emerged that gratuity payments arising out of the departures of elected representatives from Leitrim County Council will cost the local authority over €555,000.
Under legislation, councillors who have left office are entitled to the payments once they reach the age of 50 and have at least two years of qualifying service.
The gratuity is one fifth of an elected representative’s annual wage for each year of unbroken service, once they leave office.
Figures published in the Irish Independent show that long serving Councillor Gerry Dolan is to receive just shy of €100,000.
Caillian Ellis and Frank Dolan are in line for over €90,000.
Former Manorhamilton Municipal District Councillor Seán McDermott is entitled to just under €90,000.
Sinéad Guckian and Finola Armstrong Maguire are to receive just over €68,000 and €45,0000 respectively.
Enda McGloin, who is still an elected member in the Ballinamore local electoral area is entitled to almost €34,000.
While Thomas Mulligan at €22,600 and Gerry Kilrane at €19,300 round off Leitrim’s figures.
Eamon Scanlon was the sole former member of the local authority in Sligo to see his figures published which were over €1,500 following his re-election to the Dáil in 2016.
Donegal County Council say payments in respect of the 2024 election are still being processed, however they have confirmed the total will be just over €335,500.
