Over 400 asylum seekers to move into Benbulben Court



Over 400 asylum seekers are due to move into Benbulben Court in Sligo this week.

 

It follows the arrival of almost 180 refugees to Milligan Court last month.

 

Both apartment complexes have been embroiled in controversy, as they traditionally catered to students but abruptly stopped this arrangement last year.

 

The move effectively displaced around 500 young people wishing to study in the town.

 

Instead, it was announced that plans were afoot to use the accommodation to house refugees – plans which had been initially prevented, following Government intervention.

 

Independent TD Marian Harkin says she’s gravely disappointed at the latest developments and has reiterated her call for measures to be put in place to ensure something like this never happens again:
