Keelin Kilrehill defends Autumn International title

Dromore West’s Keelan Kilrehill retained his Autumn Open International Cross Country title on Sunday in Dublin, winning the senior men’s 8000 metres race.

The Moy Valley AC clulbman ran  a patient race to stretch clear of the field into the final two laps to cross in a winning time of 23:51.

Sean Tobin (Clonmel) was second in 24:16, with Spain’s Isaac Hirshmanchandler third in 24:20.

Sligo AC’s Finley Daly finished fourth in a time of 24:26.

Speaking after the race, Kilrehill said: “Any day you win you have to be happy, and I felt good out there.

“I thought I’d have to do more of the work today, but Sean (Tobin) and the lads up front made it hard over the first few laps, so it took me two or three kilometres to get to the front.

“When I got there, I said there was no point messing around and to make it harder.”
