Mohill win classic Leitim county final on penalties

Mohill won back-to-back Leitrim Connacht Gold senior football championship titles for the first time in the club’s history, with a penalty shoot-out victory over a gallant Ballinamore Sean O’Heslin’s on Saturday evening.

The sides finished level 1-12 to 0-15 at the end of extra-time, with Mohill winning the shootout 4-2.

This was a terrific county final, by any standards, with result in doubt right up until the final spot kick.

Mohill, playing with a significant breeze at their backs in the opening half, led by 0-10 to 0-7 at the interval, but a Tom Prior (1-5) inspired Ballinamore came storming back in the second half to force the game into extra-time (1-12 to 0-15)

Mohill manager Eamonn O’Hara received a red card during extra-time following an apparent altercation with the fourth official.
