Three-match ban for Sligo Rovers boss

Sligo Rovers manager John Russell has received a three-game touchline ban following his sending-off at the end of last Sunday evening’s SSE Airtricity League Premier Division game against St Patrick’s Athletic in Dublin.

Russell was sent to the stands deep in injury-time after protesting against referee Rob Hennessy’s decision to award a penalty to St Pat’s.

Footage of the incident suggested that Rovers Ellis Champman didn’t  make any contact with St Pat’s Luke Turner – but the ref pointed to the spot.

Brandon Kavanagh converted the spot-kick and the goal proved to be the matchwinner (3-2) for the home side at Inchicore.

Russell’s suspension means he will be absent from the touchline for Saturday’s league game against leaders Shelbourne, the away trip to Drogheda – and the team’s FAI Cup quarter-final tie against UCD.

Rovers Head of Strength & Conditioning, Tom French, also received a three-match  ban – having received a red card at the end of last Sunday’s game.

Earlier this week, Rovers confirmed they hadcontacted the FAI over over the officiating during last weekend’s fixture.
