A ban on the sale of vapes to under 18s will come into effect today.
Penalties for breaking the new rules could include fines of up to 4,000 euro or six months in prison.
Other measures are due to follow next year, including action on e-cigarette sales in vending machines, and advertising.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly officially brought the ban in yesterday.
Member of the Regional Health Forum West, Councillor Donal Gilroy, said it’s important that Ireland’s young people are protected from harmful products.
