As a result of Minister Monologue moving to Brussels the door could open for the return of the former Donegal TD, Pat “the Cope” Gallagher returning to contest the next general election campaign for Fianna Fáil.

Roscommon East Galway Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice is also being touted as possible future European candidate.

The new look Midlands North West constituency will also include Laois and Offaly.
