Sligo Yacht Club named Club of the Year

Sligo Yacht Club has been named ‘Club of the Year’ at the Irish Sailing Awards for 2022, which were announced on Saturday at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire.

Sligo beat off competition from Cobh Sailing Club in Cork and Sutton Dinghy Club in Dublin to collect this new award in Irish Sailing.

Originally formed in 1821, Sligo Yacht Club is home to enthusiastic sailors of all ages.

The club boasts strong Junior and Adult dinghy fleets, a competitive J24 class and great sail training courses.

Sailing takes place five days a week from April to October each year – and the club, based in Rosses Point, welcomes all potential new members or visitors to come experience the sport of sailing.

Speaking to Ocean FM Sport, Ken Draper, Commodore of Sligo Yacht Club, described the award as a “pleasant surprise” and paid tribute to the volunteers at the club.
