Sligo’s Brendan Egan takes up Nutritionist role with Ireland soccer team

Sligo’s Brendan Egan has started a new role as nutritionist to the Republic of Ireland senior men’s soccer team.

The Tourlestrane native has been working with Stephen Kenny’s squad this week in Abbotstown as Ireland prepare for their opening Euro 2024 qualifier against World Cup finalists France.

Egan is an Associate Professor of Sport and Exercise Physiology, and currently Head of School for the School of Health and Human Performance at DCU.

Outside of academia, through his sporting career as an inter-county Gaelic footballer with Sligo from 2003 to 2017, Brendan has had a lifelong association with sport, training and performance at all levels of competition from grassroots to elite level.

He won county titles with his native Tourlestrane in Sligo – and an All-Ireland club title with Dublin’s St Vincent’s in 2008..
