MacSharry challenges Taoiseach over level of Dail influence on eviction ban



A Sligo Leitrim TD has challenges the Taoiseach on exactly what influence the Dail will have when it comes to final drafting of the eviction ban.

 

It comes as the Government is on course to win today’s Dáil vote on ending the evictions ban.

 

Support from the Regional Independent Group of TDs appears to be proving crucial in defeating a Sinn Féin motion on extending it beyond March 31st.

 

Members of the group have said measures like more social housing and tax changes for landlords have been well received.

 

Speaking in the Dail this afternoon, Deputy Marc MacSharry pressed Taoiseach Leo Varadkar to confirm whether or not the Government will proceed with the lifting of the ban regardless of what the vote will go, while responding, Leo Varadkar says legislation trumps private members motions:
