Sheep farmers from across the region expected to attend crisis meeting later



Sheep farmers in the North West are being urged to attend a crisis meeting in Carrick-On-Shannon tonight.

 

It’s getting underway in the Bush Hotel at 8pm and aims to campaign for a €50 million rescue package for the sheep sector, to be funded through the Brexit Reserve Fund.

 

Farmers say that the current payment of €12 per ewe under this scheme is not fit for purpose and needs to be raised to the more sustainable level.
