Leitrim councillor says todays trolley figures shows there is still a crisis in health



A north Leitrim councillor and member of the Regional Health Forum West says todays trolley figures provides the government with a sharp reminder that the overcrowding in the health system is still very much a real issue.

Latest figures show that there are 69 people waiting on trollies in the north wests two main hospitals this morning.

 

35 were reported to be waiting on beds at Sligo University Hospital while the number was slightly less at Letterkenny University Hospital with 34 people waiting.

 

Across the Country the INMO claim that 651 were waiting for a hospital bed.

 

The INMO General Secretary Phil Ní Sheaghdha claiming that overcrowding is out of control and a national response is needed.

 

Councillor Felim Gurn says the housing crisis has taken the spotlight off the problems in health recently.

 

The independent Councillor has renewed his calls for Primary Care centres need to be upgraded and for the decision to close Accident and Emergency Departments needs to be reversed.
