Sligo’s Francis Donoghue wins All-Ireland cross country gold



Summerhill College student FrancisDonoghue produced a superb run at Saturday’s 123.ie All-Ireland Schools Cross Country finals in Waterford to win the boys intermediate title for 2023.

Donoghue, a member of South Sligo Athletic Club, finished ahead of Declan O’Connell (Athenry) and Fintan Diver (St Malachy’s, Belfast).

The victory means he will lead the Irish team into the forthcoming Schools International Championships in Liverpool later this month.

Summerhill finished fourth overall in the intermediate team event.

The College’s junior boys team won bronze in their event.
