Sligo hurlers in relegation trouble after London loss

Sligo hurlers remain pointless at the foot of Division 2B of the Allianz League following Saturday 5-16 to 2-20 loss to London at McGovern Park in Ruislip.

London established a 3-9 to 1-10 first-half lead with Sligo’s ambitions not helped by Eoin Comerford red card in the opening 35 minutes.

A Jack Goulding goal for London shortly after the restart, his second of the match helped move the exiles nine points clear and, a man down, Sligo struggled to cut into this lead in the meaningful way.

Saturday’s win was London’s first of the league campaign – it leaves Sligo pointless at the bottom with just two games to go – and facing a relegation play-off.

Sligo manager Padraig Mannion gave this postmatch assessment to Padraig McKeon.

Elsewhere, Meath qualified for the Division 2B final with a a big win over Tyrone.

In Division 3B, Leitrim’s trip to Cavan at Kingspan Breffni was postponed because of weather conditions.

The game has been refixed for Sunday at the same venue at 2pm.
