Sligo Councillor defends “soft independents” stance



The use of the term “soft Independents” by Cllr Arthur Gibbons has caused some controversy yet again at the latest sitting of Sligo County Council.

Tension arose this morning within the Council Chamber over the Councillor’s choice of language in his motions.

The matter was taken to a vote with the majority of local representatives voting against the use of the term and Cllr Gibbons’s motion was subsequently thrown out after he also refused to amend it.

Speaking to Ocean FM, Cllr Gibbons defended his stance and reiterated that his turn of phrase is directed at the Independents at a national level:
