North West protesters to highlight forestry concerns in the garden county

Farmers, landowners and those concerned about future forestry plantations in the north west are traveling to Wicklow today a protest outside Coillte head offices in Newtown Mount Kennedy.

The national organisation ‘Save our Forests Save Our Land’ is organising today’s event.

The group are made up of 38 smaller organisations, was set up in strong opposition to the selling off of huge swathes of land by Coillte to a UK Investment company to plant extensive forestry in rural Ireland.

Gerry Loftus, the leader of the Rural Ireland Organisation says the time has come to stop the fear inflicted by Coillte on farming communities nationally.
