There’s renewed momentum for a 50M swimming pool to be established in Sligo.
Currently there’s no such facility in the county of even in Connaught itself with athletes having to travel long distances to avail of other facilities elsewhere.
There had been calls for a feasibility study to be carried out in relation to the proposal however it’s thought that now isn’t the right time.
Cllr Donal Gilroy says there are many in the local swimming club who are keen to see the proposal progressed, particularly when Sligo is home to an Olympic swimming finalist:
