Minister Calleary backs plans for Sligo to be included in Western Rail Corridor



The Minister of State for Trade Promotion and Digital Transformation has said he would like to see Sligo included in the Western Rail Corridor plans.

 

Dara Calleary said he wants to see the Western Rail Corridor up and running, pending the imminent publication of the All-Island Rail Review.

 

It comes as new lines have been proposed in Mayo, Waterford, Wexford, and the possibility of a connection between Derry and Donegal. Its understood these lines will be used for freight transportation in the short-term.

 

Speaking at the launch of the new AIM centre in Sligo town, Minister Calleary told Ocean FM News that upgrading the rail infrastructure will make Sligo a much attractive proposition for investment.
