Solidarity with refugees rally scheduled to take place in Sligo

A local representative for the Labour party has blasted attempts to attribute responsibility for the health and housing crisis with refugees that are arriving in the country.

Nessa Cosgrove, the Local Area Representative for Labour in Sligo Leitrim made the comments just days after an anti-refugee rally was held in Sligo.

The former election candidate says deficiencies in our health service have been caused by year of government policy failures and successive flawed housing policies has led to many people struggling to secure accommodation.

She says a small minority of people in this region are attempting to make news residents in the north west feel unwelcome.

She’s calling on the people in the North West to stand in solidarity with those who seek refuge here, and urged as many people as possible to support an event which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, 18th February in Sligo which is aimed at welcoming refugees and forcing the government to address the current crisis that exists in housing and health.
