Leitrim Councillors vote in favour of County Development Plan

Leitrim County Councillors have voted in the County Development Plan.

The plan was passed at a special meeting of Leitrim County Council which took place yesterday.

Almost 100 weeks of work was put into the county Development plan which will come into effect in a few weeks time and will run until 2029.

A report from the Chief Executive, Lar Power was brought before members yesterday with a number of recommendations and amendments included.

The plan focused on a number of issues concerning the county such as forestry, one off planning and efforts to inject new life into town centres.

Drumshanbo councillor Enda McGloin says one aspect of the plan focused on the local authority in Leitrim being afforded more influence on applications for plantations in the future.

Independent Councillor Des Guckian aired his concerns to the plan calling it ‘the final nail in the coffin for the council as an independent entity’.

Cllr McGloin however says Leitrim Council like all local authorities have to work within parameters laid down by Irish and European law:
