Local players shine in Sigerson Cup quarter-finals

Leitrim Paul Keaney played a pivotal role in University of Limerick’s Sigerson Cup quarter-final victory over holders NUI Galway on Tuesday night.

The St Mary’s club player scored seven points in their extra-time win over last year’s winners – and was then dismissed in the closing stages of normal time.

Keaney spoke to Oisin Langan after the win.

Keaney’s fellow countyman Donal Casey was unable to line out for UL because of the hamstring injury he picked up in last Sunday’s Allianz League win over Waterford.

Sligo footballer Nathan Mullen was part of the NUI Galway team on Tuesday night.

Elsewhere, Drumcliffe/Rosses Point’s Eoghan Smith played 50 minutes in DCU’s 2-12 to 0-9 win over MTU Cork.

The Shamrock Gaels duo of Sean Carroll and Shane Deignan were also on the DCU matchday panel for the game.

The DCU team also featured no less than six Donegal players: Jamie Grant (Termon) Shane O’Donnell (St Eunan’s), Oisin Cannon (St Michael’s), Ross Marley (Glenfin), Oisin Gallen (MacCumhaill’s) and Johnny McGroddy (Downings).
