St Attracta’s reach All-Ireland soccer final

St Attracta’s Tubbercurry’s spectacular run in this seasons’s FAI Schoolgirls senior ‘A’ cup broke new ground on Tuesday in Ennis as the south Sligo school beat St Mary’s High School from Midleton (Cork) 2-1 after extra-time in a thrilling semi-final win.

Attracta’s were 1-0 down as the game entered the closing quarter.

But an equaliser from team captain Pixie O’Hara took the semi-final into extra-time.

And it was St Attracta’s who prevailed in the extra period, as an own goal gave them victory and a place in their first-ever All-Ireland schools senior soccer final.

Their opponents in the final will either be against last year’s winners Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana vs Coláiste Phobal from Roscrea, who meet in Thursday’s second semi-final at Ray MacSharry Park in Cranmore (1pm).

The All-Ireland schools final is provisionally fixed for Wednesday, February 22nd (venue & time tbc).
