Restoring vacant homes still a costly venture – Fallon



Neglect by successive Governments is being cited as one the big reasons behind the high vacancy rate in the North West.

 

Leitrim has the highest vacancy rate in the country according to the new report by GeoDirectory at 12.2% followed by Donegal at 9.4% while the figure in Sligo stands at 8.8%.

 

The figures do not include the likes of vacant and derelict commercial property, such as old shops and pubs or former offices.

 

Cllr Padraig Fallon says while there is a bit of movement in North Leitrim with restoring vacant properties but despite some grant aid available, it does remain a costly venture:
