Sligo TD tells the government to be more ‘hands on’ with semi-state companies



A Sligo Leitrim TD is looking for assurances from the Government that it will take a ‘more hands on’ approach to the semi-State sector in the future.

 

Earlier this month, it was revealed Coillte made a 200 million euro deal with UK asset management fund, Gresham House.

 

Hundreds gathered outside Leinster House yesterday to protest over the multi-million euro deal.

 

The Irish Farmers Association President Tim Cullinan told those gathered for the protest that it’s unfair for farmers to be excluded from forestry.  He added that the controversial Coillte deal is very frustrating for everybody, in particular for farmers engaged in forestry.

 

 

Addressing the Dáil as part of statements under Irelands Forestry Strategy Independent Deputy Marc MacSharry outlined how the move will lead to little or no local investment:
