A Sligo councillor is calling on the government to intervene and prevent Coillte joining up with an overseas investment fund that will look to buy up large quantities of land for afforestation use.
Sinn Fein claim the proposed Coillte joint venture with Gresham House has caused widespread concern among environmentalists, farmers, the forestry sector and local communities. Adding that it is not about Climate, simply about corporate profit.
Last night they tabled a motion on the issue in the Dáil which the government failed to oppose.
Sligo Drumcliffe Councillor Thomas Healy says the government should intervene and direct Coillte to abandon the proposed merger with the Gresham House.
