Fears overcrowding at Sligo University Hospital will escalate again



There are fears that overcrowding at Sligo University Hospital will escalate again in the coming weeks.

 

While the number waiting on trolleys and in overflow areas has decreased this week, this is said to be down to a ‘concerted effort’ by staff and other community services.

 

Meanwhile, there’s also concern that some people are leaving it too late to present to the Emergency Department at Sligo, resulting them in being very ill by the time they are admitted to hospital.

 

Speaking to Ocean FM, Consultant in Emergency Medicine at Sligo University Hospital Dr Mick Sweeney described it as a ‘band aid solution’ and something that wouldn’t solve issues in the long term:
