New Donegal manager adds to backroom team

New Donegal senior football manager Paddy Carr has brought in additional personnel to his backroom team as he continues preparations for the 2023 season.

Michael McGeehin, who is Sport Ireland Ireland’s Director of Coaching, and is also the current Coaching Officer on the Donegal county board, will be part of Carr’s management team in the New Year.

Henry McGarvey, the current vice-President for Finance and Corporate Services at LYIT, and a former Head of Department at the old IT Sligo, will be in charge of player development.

The duo will supplement the coaching staff of Armagh’s Aidan O’Rourke and Derry’s Bradley.

McGeehin was part of the three-man selection committee appointed by Donegal GAA to recruit a new manager, following Declan Bonner’s departure last July.

Dr Ken van Someren, a lecturer at LYIT, and outgoing county board Chairman Mick McGrath were the other two members of that selection committee.

Donegal’s opening competitive game in 2023 will be away to Down in Section A of the Dr McKenna Cup on Sunday, January 8th, at Páirc Esler in Newry.

Paddy Carr’s side will then host Monaghan in Ballybofey on Wednesday. January 11th.
