Sligo Leitrim TD facing possible suspension from Dáil

The Sligo Leitrim TD Marc MacSharry could be facing a two day suspension from the Dáil after a ruling was made against him by a standards committee for politicians.

If Deputy MacSharry fails apologise for comments he made about Leas-Cheann Comhairle Catherine Connolly it’s likely he will have to serve the period of suspension.

A complaint was lodged by Independent TD for Donegal Thomas Pringle after Mr MacSharry accused Ms Connolly of discriminating against him during Dáil debates and not giving him as much speaking time as other Independent TDs.

The Irish Independent are reporting that Committee sources said the proposal to suspend was ratified after they examined the number of times his name was chosen to speak during this time for debate.

Marc MacSharry also resigned from Fianna Fáil in November.
