Commuters warned to to take care on regions roads

Met Éireann says there are hazardous conditions nationally, with a status yellow ice warning now in place.

It will run until midday, with black ice possible, as well as freezing rain.

The Road Safety Authority is advising motorists to slow down.

There are no reports of any incidents on local roads as the North West seems to have escaped the worst of the icy conditions

It’s also emerged that Ireland’s electricity supply is likely to be under threat again in the coming days, as demand increases during the cold snap.

According to the Irish Times, Eirgrid was close to issuing an amber alert yesterday.

That was until extra supply came through from Ireland’s interconnector with the UK.

Sub-zero temperatures are expected to put pressure on the system again, and an alert may become ‘unavoidable’.
