Intensive road safety operation launched for festive period across Sligo & Leitrim

An intensive six-week road safety operation has been launched for the festive period across Co. Sligo and Co. Leitrim.

The campaign will run until January 3rd, with the aim of reducing road deaths over the Christmas and New Year period.

In a statement, Inspector Paul Kilcoyne said that divisional Road Policing Units and frontline units will conduct a variety of super checkpoints focusing on all traffic lifesaver offences such as drink/drug driving, mobile phone use, speeding, and non-wearing of seatbelts.

Gardai will also be using the new preliminary drug testing device as part of the initiative.
